Senegal - Illegal Issues of Postage Stamps
UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION |
Berne, 2 January 2001 International Bureau Circular |
7 |
Dear Sir/Madam
The postal administration of SENEGAL asks me to inform you of the following:
"Our administration has been informed of the existence of postage stamps bearing the inscription 'République du Sénégal' and featuring the theme 'Greenpeace'. "They consist of two souvenir sheets of nine stamps, with values of 250 F and 425 F. I would like to inform you and for you to so inform our Union's administrations that these stamps are to be regarded as fake and their issue illegal, since they have never been ordered by Senegal."
"Needless to say, the circulation of these illegal postage stamps, because they have been issued by a particular enterprise without our administration's authorization, does serious harm to the Senegalese postal service and to collectors."
"Consequently, we would ask all postal administrations not to accept correspondence bearing these fake stamps."
"Legal action has already been initiated to trace the forgers and bring them to justice."
Yours faithfully,
C GHEORGHIEV
Assistant Director General
More information about the illegal issues can be obtained directly from the UPU, Mrs. Maria Libera.
